📚 Description

This PR lets an app add its own colors next to the seven aliases from its CSS alone, with no build step or nuxt.config option. tertiary: indigo in the @nuxt/ui/colors plugin gives --ui-tertiary in both modes, the per-role variables like --ui-tertiary-text-contrast, utilities like bg-tertiary or border-tertiary-300, and the scope classes for the accent, highlight and spotlight with their role block.

A theme can't list a color it doesn't know, so tv spots a color group by its primary entry and gives an unknown name primary's classes with its own scope, like [--ui-accent:var(--ui-tertiary)], which is the rule the plugin writes. For the types, the module reads the plugin block from the app's stylesheets and augments a new UIColors interface, in .nuxt/types/ui.d.ts for Nuxt and in a root ui.d.ts for Vue, so color="tertary" fails the type check. The ESLint config reads the same block, following the imports too, so a raw bg-indigo-500 suggests bg-tertiary-500. UChart and UProgressGroup take raw CSS colors too, they now resolve a name through var(--ui-<name>, <name>).

Not covered: the type generation only follows relative imports, Vue users have to add ui.d.ts to their tsconfig, and the Vue side is only tested with unit tests. color="red" on UProgressGroup still gets a scope class that has no rule, the inline style wins. Without an added color the CSS output is identical and the engine benchmarks the same.

Walkthrough

The changes add custom colour aliases through the Nuxt UI colours plugin. The CSS plugin validates names and palettes, creates colour scopes and utilities, and supports default or explicit shades. Stylesheet scanning discovers configured names for generated TypeScript declarations. Runtime types and variant handling accept added colours, while resolveColor maps names to CSS variables and preserves other CSS values.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Prune removed stylesheet entries before generating ui.d.ts.

When one transformed stylesheet is removed from the app and another stylesheet is transformed, added retains the removed stylesheet's entry. The generated UIColors type can therefore keep a colour that the active stylesheets no longer define.

Rebuild the map from active stylesheet entrypoints, or prune removed module IDs during the Vite update lifecycle. Preserve aggregation across all active entrypoints.

Cover a direct colour declaration in the colours plugin test.

The test name says it covers "the colors of the stylesheet and the ones it imports". It writes only tertiary to colors.css. main.css imports that file and declares no colour itself. The assertion therefore checks only imported colour discovery. A regression that drops direct declarations from the transformed stylesheet would still pass.

Add a distinct direct declaration after the imports and assert its name too. The ordering concern does not apply to the current fixture, because it has no direct declaration. Keep the direct declaration after the imports. The runtime colour resolver requires tailwindcss to be imported first.

added is keyed by the raw id, but the scan removes its query string. If the same stylesheet is transformed first as main.css?direct and later as main.css, the map keeps both results. src/plugins/colors.ts:25-42
🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Rescan the CSS root when an imported stylesheet changes.

ColorsPlugin writes ui.d.ts only from its transform hook. Tailwind watches imported CSS files, but its hotUpdate hook treats the watched CSS file as an external CSS request and returns before reloading the Tailwind root. Vite tracks that file as an asset without the parent stylesheet as an importer. Therefore, editing the imported file can leave ui.d.ts stale until another root transform or a restart.

Add a hot-update path that rescans the affected CSS root and rewrites ui.d.ts.

Preserve repeated imports when resolving palette precedence.

If a.css and b.css both import common.css, Tailwind processes both imports. If a.css overrides a palette, this global set skips the later import through b.css, so ESLint suggests the a.css alias even when the later common.css declaration wins. Track paths on the active recursion stack instead. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Parse the complete palette value.

For primary: indigo-brand, this expression records indigo, so ESLint suggests primary for bg-indigo-500 even though it points to a different palette. It also treats primary: black white as a palette change, although those values are shades. Match the colour plugin’s palette parsing. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Review comment at @src/eslint.ts around lines 84 - 85:
Update the palette parsing in the matchAll loop that populates colors so it
captures complete palette values such as indigo-brand and follows the colour
plugin’s parsing rules, without treating whitespace-separated shade values such
as black white as a palette change.
