fix(web): stashing waits for pasted images to finish compressing - #28308
If you paste a large screenshot and stash the prompt (Mod+S) while the image is still compressing, the stash saves the text without the image and clears the composer. When compression finishes, the image shows up alone in the emptied composer. The prompt and its image end up apart, and restoring the stash in another thread brings back only the text.
Sending already waits for this case ("Still compressing a pasted image."). Stashing only waited for attached context to finish importing, not for images that were still compressing.
Change
stashCurrentPrompt now checks countPreparingComposerImages, the same check the send path uses. While an image is still compressing it leaves the draft alone and shows "Still compressing a pasted image. Stash again once its thumbnail appears."
The check sits after the empty-composer branch. With no text and only a compressing image, Mod+S still opens the stash menu or restores a single stashed prompt, as before. That path saves nothing, and the image joins the restored draft once it is ready.
Scope and approval
No issue. This is a very small fix for an obvious bug: one guard, copied from the send path, in an existing feature. It changes nothing in stash storage, restore, the server or the contracts. A maintainer can confirm one choice: the stash waits and asks you to retry, as send does, rather than waiting for the image itself.
Verification
New useComposerStash.browser.test.tsx: "keeps the draft when stashing while a pasted image is still compressing". On main it fails: an entry is written and the prompt is cleared. With the fix it passes. ComposerStashMenu.browser.test.tsx still passes.
vp run check:changed: format, lint, knip, typecheck, tests and React compiler all pass.
Web (browser) and desktop (Linux Electron dev build), each before and after, using a large synthetic PNG so compression takes long enough to press Mod+S. Web:
Before: prompt typed, pasted image still compressing (0%).
Before: after Mod+S the stash entry has only the text, and the finished image sits alone in the composer.
After: Mod+S while the image compresses keeps the draft and shows the toast.
After: once the image is ready, stashing and restoring brings back the text and image together.
Desktop on macOS and Windows. The same composer shortcut handler runs there; only Linux was captured.
Mobile: not applicable, the mobile composer has no prompt stash.
Prior PRs
None for this fix. #18393 routes a late paste back to its original draft, which this builds on. #24468 (open) changes the stash store and its test for cross-tab synchronization, a separate problem.

Stashing while a pasted or dropped image was still compressing saved the text without the image and cleared the draft. When compression finished, the image landed in the emptied composer, so a restore elsewhere brought back the prompt without its image.
stashCurrentPrompt now checks the preparing-image count, the same check the send path uses, and shows an info toast asking to stash again once the thumbnail appears. An empty draft keeps its existing menu toggle and single-entry restore.

Walkthrough
useComposerStash now stops before stashing when an image for the attachment target is still preparing. A browser test verifies that the prompt stash remains empty and the prompt text remains unchanged.

Summary
Guard prompt stashing during image preparation apps/web/src/components/chat/useComposerStash.ts, apps/web/src/components/chat/useComposerStash.browser.test.tsx
stashCurrentPrompt checks for images still preparing. If any exist, it shows an informational toast and returns without stashing. The browser test checks that the stash stays empty and the prompt text remains unchanged.
The message may prompt users to retry too early, but the draft remains protected. This is a small usability issue.

Assert that the preparing image remains registered.
The test checks only the prompt and stash. Since readAttachmentDraft returns no images, it would still pass if the blocked stash handler removed the preparing image. Assert that the pasted image remains registered after the shortcut.

ComposerAttachmentStrip.tsx renders a thumbnail while the image is still preparing and retains it after compression. The thumbnail can already be visible when this toast appears. Ask users to wait for compression to finish instead. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
